We are often confused with the representation or portrayal of a healthy relationship in the movies and media. It is difficult to differentiate between real and fantasy relationships due to many misconceptions about what is healthy and unhealthy.

Which pictures come to your mind when we speak about healthy relationships? A healthy relationship is where partners can communicate, trust, respect, and find a middle ground to work on their issues and conflicts. A healthy relationship is when partners are willing to put effort through their words into action through adjustment and compromise.

Here are some signs to look out for a healthy romantic relationship:

  • Trust:

Trust is one of the core signs of continuing the relationship. Trust works on words and actions where the partner is valued, honest, and dependable. At the same time, it is necessary to allow room for space, growth, and freedom to work on other areas of life.

  • Self-respect:

Self-respect is when you accept yourself for all your flaws, strengths, and weaknesses. It is a process through which we respect, care, and value ourselves and others. It helps us to accept our partners the way they are and boosts confidence and self-esteem.

  • Consent:

Consent is the most undervalued factor in a relationship. Consent is a mutual agreement between partners when they actively communicate to get physically or sexually connected. Respecting the partner’s body and giving them space to feel comfortable is highly important and forms a deeper connection.

  • Communication:

Communication in a healthy relationship is open, honest, and uncomfortable. Every relationship will have unsettling fights and problems. Communication is a way to address concerns from time to time. Here the aim is to work towards finding a middle ground with an open mind for growth with the approval of both partners.

Trust, self-respect, consent, and communication are signs to build a healthy relationship.
